Subject: Asi Del Precipicio

Released in 2006, Asi Del Precipio, a Mexican movie is about the life of three flatmates who are struggling for money and love at the backdrop of cocaine addiction. Lucia's primary interests are alcohol, cocaine and her boyfriend; while her career as an art director becomes secondary which puts her job at risk. Carmen, a hardcore cocaine sniffer is a struggling artist surrounded with a gay, a transgender and a cocaine supplier. Hanna moves in with Lucia and Carmen after a reluctant divorce and gets attracted to a rich female customer of hers. Whether the girls come out of their struggles is what makes the remaining of the movie. The movie is predictable and there are lots of nudity and sex scenes, both heterosexual and homosexual.

One might question the necessity of excessive skin shows in this movie, but keeping in mind this movie is directed by a woman, portrayal of sexuality is shown in a different perspective than a male director's.

Lucia- someone who enjoys sado-machosim and demands it from her boyfriend and not the other way round. sado-machosim here doesn't involve objects. Like most women, she gets trapped in the false belief that a guy has sex with a woman out of love. Carmen and her boyfriend are shown full frontal nude, perhaps the director is showing that in heterosexual sex, there is no sentimentalism from the male's side but only carnal pleasure.

Carmen - how many times have we girls, after seeing a hunk , have wished he wasn't a gay. Though she knows her friend is a gay, she openly admits to him that she's attracted to him and tries to kiss him. She's willing to date a gay.

Hanna- she doesn't fall for the attractive and elegant Sandra out of depression or desperation. She gets attracted by her beauty and like guys, immediately sets her eyes on Sandra's breasts. She dreams of having wild fantasy with Sandra involving the typical women objects like a cake. Unlike the sex between Carmen and her boyfriend, here we see only the breasts of the lesbians in the love making scenes, probably the director is stressing on the emotional attachment rather than physical desire.

Taking the less conventional route, female film directors don't fail to depict their obsession of female sexuality in their movies.
