In the movie Autograph , this conversation takes place between the father and son, when the latter consumes alcohol as escapism to forget his lover.
Dad: If you want to forget your bitter past, you should do something else that you like.
In Positive behavior support, which is a branch of psychology, stresses a similar point: To get rid of an old bad behavior; apply a new positive behavior there. For example, when a child throws tantrum to get attention from her dad, she must be taught of how to get the same outcome by proper way of communication. So in this case, tantrum which was a bad behavior is replaced by communication to get her father’s attention.
Similarly, the protagonist was advised to replace his alcohol consumption, which is a bad behavior with searching for a job, a positive behavior in order to forget his past.
Knowing or unknowingly, the writer has done a good job by implementing a proven practical approach in the movie.
